Choosing The Right Light Bulbs For Your Lighting Incandescent bulbs are most popular because of their soft, warm light. They are relatively inexpensive, come in different shapes and sizes and the glass is usually clear or frosted. The downfall with incandescent bulbs is that they are the least energy efficient. Halogen bulbs are great because they give off bright white light and are very energy efficient. These bulbs last a long time. To replace incandescent bulbs with lighting that's more energy efficient, use compact fluorescent tubes. They come in different sizes and can fit any light source, like track lights or wall sconces. Compact fluorescent lighting is also great, because it produces little amount of heat and the light is pleasing to the eye. Since it contains mercury, recycle with care. Fluorescent lighting provides cool light and is cool to the touch. It's an economical choice for any large amount of space, like a living room. A new option to lighting is xenon. It comes in an incandescent bulb that contains xenon gas. The bulbs last long and the light is bright, but it's not as energy efficient as halogen bulbs or compact fluorescent. |
